Nairobi, Kenya – The Ministry of Health has launched a nationwide immunization drive to protect children from Typhoid and Measles-Rubella (MR), two life-threatening yet preventable diseases.
Running from 5th to 14th July 2025, the campaign will administer:
- Measles-Rubella vaccine to children aged 9 to 59 months
- Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) to children aged 9 months to 14 years
The initiative comes in response to a surge in antimicrobial-resistant typhoid, which poses the greatest risk to children under 15, especially those under five. Measles outbreaks in 18 counties have also left thousands vulnerable, with 2,949 cases and 18 deaths reported between January 2024 and February 2025.
Following the campaign, TCV will become part of Kenya’s routine immunization schedule for children at 9 months of age.
“This rollout underscores our commitment to ensure no child dies from a vaccine-preventable disease,” said Hon. Aden Duale, E.G.H, Cabinet Secretary for Health.
The Ministry is urging parents, caregivers, and communities to ensure eligible children are vaccinated and is mobilizing county health teams and partners to support the effort.
✅ Target coverage: 95% MR and 80% TCV.
✅ Call to action: “No child should suffer or die from preventable diseases.”
